Master Distiller Willie Pratt selects the barrels that go into the 20 Year Old Bourbon from the warehouse as they reach that fine stage of maturity.
Michters should be the epitome of what other distillers should aim to achieve. Until tasting this 20 year old dram last night, my Michter’s experience was that of the NAS drams and the 10 year old which I drank a few weeks prior. Now that 10 year old was sensational and I never dreamed that it could get better than that. Ladies and Gents, I was wrong. Way wrong. The 20 year old is by far one of the best bourbon drams I’ve ever tasted. And I say that with the likes of tasting all the Pappy’s and other high end bourbons. Each batch of Michter’s is taken from a single barrel (each barrel only holds about 300 bottles), so the proof and the flavor will vary slightly from batch to batch.
Single Barrel Michter’s 20 is now considered a hot commodity to own, preferably from 2015 and the 2014 years.
Name: Micther’s Single Barrel 20 year old Bourbon
Proof: 114.2 (Some hot stuff)
Nose: Sweetness of the corn and brown sugar molasses are very evident. There are also dark chocolate notes, patchouli and vanilla. The sweetness does not overpower the nose, but it lends to allow the palate to prepare for what is about to happen in your mouth.
Palate: More vanilla and caramel oak chocolate, with a velvety orange goodness, and nice cinnamon spices. The mouth feel is very warm and silky. It’s smooth however, there are so many flavors that mend so well together, it lasts throughout.
Finish: The finish is Medium bodied with a nice long spicy finish. It’s almost reminiscent of your favorite childhood memory.
Price: over $1000 if you can find it.
