Japan has been showing a major force in the Whisky market. They have some great whiskies already, the Yamazaki is a solid favorite and affordable whisky, the Hibiki, the Nikka, Hukushu and a few others. However, this is something different, a Rice based whisky in a Cask Sherry Finish. Interesting indeed. Sometimes you have this feeling to try something totally different, wacky almost and just downright cool. Sherry Cask had me excited, because that is our favorite type of finish.
Ohishi is the closest distillery to the source of the Kuma River. The Ohishi Distillery is blessed with fertile Soil and clear underground water, elements of an environment. They use 30% of rice grown in their own fields. They combine it with a mochi rice from Kumamoto Prefecture as a main ingredient.
