My girlfriend and I have tried many Glenfarclas single malt’s from the 15 year old, 17 year old, 21 year old and 25 year old. However, we tried the 21 year old in our beginning “noobie” days and we absolutely hated it. We love the 15, 17 and 25 but for some reason the 21 was not for us. Since we have tried to many different whisk(e)y’s already we wanted to revisit the old ones since now we feel our palates are more refined and see how we feel about our “disliked ones”.

Name: Glenfarclas Single Malt 21 year old Whisky

Region: Speyside, Scotland

ABV: 43%

Nose: Butterscotch and caramel with notes of dry oak and something funky, like wet wood. It’s very strong and overpowering at first. If you let it sit out for 10-15 minutes it mellows out and the caramel with orange peer through.

Palate: Almost sherry like dark chocolate hits your tongue at first, some spices like nutmeg or cinnamon linger as well. Got a bit of maple syrup on the front end, and towards the back of the throat there is a nice burn.

Finish: A bit tangy with a medium to long spice. Towards the end there is a weird taste that lingers – almost like cough syrup. Not too great.
