Recently my gf and I had the rare opportunity to try the William Larue Weller Unfiltered 135.4 Proof Kentucky Bourbon. Yes you’ve heard correctly, its 135.4 proof bourbon. That some hot stuff, at the tip of your tongue and palate, but well worth the burn. WLW is the only wheated bourbon in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. It’s bottled at barrel-strength.
Name: William Larue Weller
Proof: 135.4%
Region: Kentucky, USA
Nose: Caramel, Nuts, lots of cinnamon and nutmeg, pepper and almost something floral comes through. A few drops of water, opens this one up quite nicely, it becomes more earthy and more crisp flowery.
Palate: Spicy but sweet, butterscotch, cream, vanilla and dark dark cacao, without the water there is a spicy tangy burst on your tongue, that’s almost peppery like. Water droplet opens up the woody and sweetness of the palate as well as adding more baked like flavors, fruitcake almost.
Finish: The finish is quite robust, dry oak and nuttiness, with some spices of nutmeg and cinnamon.
