Not all interviews are serious or over the top. Today we feature Melissa, the content creator behind a food instagram @Foodcellfie. This fun filled short interview will make you want to drop what you’re doing and buy a one way plane ticket to Chicago, the land of the Pizza and waffles.
Melissa, what motivated you to start your Instagram Foodcellfie?
M: I really really enjoy food! I’ve always loved food, taking pictures, and sharing with others. I decided to start Foodcellfie as a way to remember delicious meals I’ve had and share them with others!
When did you realize that your hobbies of food and photography could become a career?
M: Haha well I’m still waiting for that to happen! 😛 It would be a dream to make a living trying out delicious food all the time!
There are local/regional food bloggers all over the Internet, but somehow you’ve managed to cut through the noise and make a real name for yourself in the Chicago community, with over 26,000 followers on Instagram. What do you think sets you apart?
M: I guess I’ve been running Foodcellfie for a while now. Also Chicago is great because it has such delicious delicious food, everywhere, all the time. It would be so easy to go out and have something new here every day of the week.
As video becomes more ubiquitous year after year, do you make a point of incorporating that into your feed/using Instagram stories? Why?
M: I love creating videos, there was a point last year when I was really into it, but it was hard for me at the time to create videos by myself. But I definitely want to, I think videos are really fun to watch, and they let you see personality and sides of the creators you just can’t through a static picture alone.
Do you predict any shift in influencer marketing in the coming future?
M: Videos and more peeks into “behind the scenes” behind the pictures.
When partnering with a brand how do you integrate a product into your content?
M: I only promote brands that I have a genuine interest in the first place, so that makes it easy!!
What’s the most underrated aspect of working in social media?
M: People think a creator is having fun, all the time. We get to do a lot of amazing, very cool things, but it is work to capture, edit, post, and make the content interesting. I appreciate sitting down to a great meal and simply enjoying the food without having to take a bunch of pictures a lot more now!
What is the biggest tip you would have given yourself when you were starting out? What would you have done differently if you knew then what you know now?
M: Just enjoy yourself! I am not sure if I would have done much differently, because this is really about fun for me.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
M: Post what you’re interested in, truly interested in, and people will see that sincerity through your content.
When you’re not doing social media, how do you like to relax and unwind?
M: I like to listen to music, hang out with friends, and SLEEP.
Anything else you’d like to share with us?
M: If you have any good recommendations for pancakes or cookies please let me know! Thank you for chatting with me! 🙂
